Internship program now open year-round

Public Sector Commission

Agencies are encouraged to participate in the Public sector internship program and to consider preparing projects ready for the commencement of Semester 1, 2017 (February to June). The program provides high-calibre university students with practical on-the-job training opportunities within the sector.

The program, open for placements throughout the year, allows students to complete a work-based project within a public sector agency and to apply the knowledge and skills developed through their studies in a professional capacity.

Agencies and students interested in participating in the program should first refer to the Program Guidelines for more information.

University students who are interested can now view and apply for current internship opportunities on the Internships jobs search page.

Job boards

The Commission established an Internships Board in 2015, which acts as the mechanism to match university students with internship placements across the sector. Projects are advertised and applied for online via this Internships Board.

Agencies are responsible for advertising their internship opportunities and for selecting an intern to complete the project. This allows agencies to be flexible in their approach to screening and selecting the most suitable and skilled student to complete the project.

Placements can  be offered at any time, however agencies are encouraged to consider current tertiary semester periods:

Semester 1 – March to June
Semester 2 – July to October
Summer semester – December to February.
