CTE Exclusive Opportunity
Teacher in Residence – July & August 2015
It is with great excitement that the Centre for Training Excellence announces the returned visit of our Teacher in Residence – Mark Miller – specialist in Differentiated Instruction from Toronto. The Centre for Training Excellence (CTE) has requested Mark facilitate a series of workshops around the following themes:
- Assessment as/ for Learning
- Academic Leadership
- Differentiation and Technology
As part of the above themes, mini workshops will be developed as contained conversations. If someone wishes to attend all the workshops, they will receive a more robust understanding of the concept and practical applications, but it is not a necessity. Each workshop is a stand-alone experience. Each workshop is constructed to allow the participant to reflect on their own practice and approach the topic through their own interpretation of the information provided.
Theme: Assessment as/for Learning – Two Mini Workshops
Mini Workshop # 1: Role of PIAT (Pre instruction assessment tools) & Assessment as Learning – to promote metacognition in our learners & two way feedback.
The best way to map a goal is to know where you first must start. PIATs, or diagnostic tools, provide instructors an opportunity to identify gaps in student knowledge and inform unit and lesson planning. Participants will be provided an outline for instruction that is grounded in research that fosters flexible instruction and planning, firmly rooted in PIAT development. Also, PIATs are a wonderful starting point to provide instructors a structure to provide formative feedback and to develop structures for two way feedback.
