YPAC Insights Breakfast: The transition to leadership

Institute of Public Administration Australia WA

Event outline

We graduate university and start our careers, building our skills until we’re subject matter experts. But being a subject matter expert does not make a leader. What do you do at that time in your career when the very skills that helped you succeed are no longer part of your JDF? They’ve been replaced by unfamiliar new phrases: “provide strategic leadership”, “build organisational capability”, “lead a department”…

Our panellists are three public sector leaders who have successfully made this transition. We will discuss the challenges they faced and what young professionals should consider when deciding a leadership role is for them. For those who are interested in leadership, we will also discuss the opportunities that our panellists pursued to obtain their leadership roles.
