PSC-ANZSOG Leadership Seminar Series - with Dr Adrian Kuah
Networking, light breakfast and registration 8.00am to 8.30am - seminar 8.30 am to 9.45 am
Un-plan the Future: Futures and Stories for Public Policy. Dr Adrian Kuah is Senior Research Fellow at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. His research interests include futures studies, complexity science and political philosophy (focusing on pragmatism).
“The public policy enterprise in modern societies is usually understood and practised in rationalist terms: with objectivity, analytical thinking and structured planning processes. By extension, any long term planning is cast in the same mould. However, the role of the “story” tends to be dismissed as something extraneous to the policy process. This seminar suggests how and why stories are integral to the work of governance and policy making, to mobilising society’s resources towards a shared vision, and to a more engaged and collaborative effort to build a collective future.”
Dr Adrian Kuah will provoke thoughts about why and how stories are integral to the work of governing and making policy, to mobilising society’s resources towards a shared vision, and to a more engaged and collaborative effort to build a collective future.
Adrian is the former Lead Strategist in the Centre for Strategic Futures, Strategic Policy Office, Prime Minister's Office. He joined the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in July 2015 to be part of the Future Ready Singapore project, a research-come-teaching programme centred on the application of futures concepts and methodologies to public policy in complex environments.
Adrian obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics and Politics from the University of York, graduating with first class honours, followed by his Master of Arts degree in International Politics from the University of Warwick. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Defence Policy and Economics from Cranfield University, where his doctoral studies were fully funded by RSIS.
